Long Term Care

LTC is Petersburg Medical Center’s Long Term Care Unit, or nursing home. It was recently give a 5 Star (out of 5) rating from the US Governent's Medcare rating system.  Please visit Medicare.gov to see the ratings of PMC and other long term care facilities.

We welcome residents who need extra care and rehabilitation before they can return home, or on a permanent basis.  Our mission is to provide excellence in healthcare services and to promote wellness in our community.

We understand the difficult choices that families face as they prepare to make new living arrangements for a loved one who can no longer live alone or in an assisted living situation.  We are dedicated to helping each resident and their family make informed decisions about the best placement option and make sure that the transition is as smooth as it can possibly be.

We welcome involvement from friends and families in all areas of long term care living.  For those residents who may not have families who are able to participate, we are always advocates for our residents. We value our resident’s families so much that we provide temporary accommodations for them to visit their loved ones in Petersburg.

Our residents enjoy 24 hour skilled nursing care in a cozy, home-like environment, with care provided by licensed, caring and friendly staff.  Resident safety, quality of care, and the satisfaction of our residents are our top priorities.

Quality Care
Each resident is provided with an individualized plan of care that guides the staff in caring for the resident each day.  The plan of care is developed by a multidisciplinary team including their physician of choice, nursing, activities, dietary, physical therapy, social services, and most importantly, the input of the resident and their family.

Our nursing staff, which includes registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and certified nurse’s assistants, and a full time nurse coordinator, is highly skilled, caring and committed to providing excellent care to all those who depend on them.  Our small size allows us to have an excellent staff to resident ratio which fosters relationships between staff and residents and allows us to provide the level of care that meets and exceeds the standards of state and federal guidelines.  Most importantly, we care for our residents in the same manner that we would care for our own family.

Activities
We work hard to provide opportunities for our residents to enjoy the same activities that they enjoyed while in their previous living situation.  Our fabulous 7 day a week activities department endeavors to engage our residents in activities that are enjoyable and truly improve the quality of our resident’s lives.  We offer both group and individual activities.  Some of the activities that our current residents enjoy are:  morning exercises, sing-a-longs (a community favorite), bingo, crafts, puzzles, pastoral visits, reading books and being read to, watching television, visiting with family on Skype, movie nights, birthday parties, baking, piano recitals, playing the Wii, community outings and our twice weekly wheelchair-accessible van rides…Just to name a few.  Please see our Long Term Care Events page for more information.

Our community values our residents and we have an active visitor and volunteer program that enhances our activity program.  Our goal is to keep our residents as busy as they want to be with activities that fit into their lifestyles.

Medical/Dental Needs

Our on-site physician clinic allows each physician to remain current with each resident’s condition, whether it be through scheduled appointments at the clinic or to address acute needs at the bedside. Visiting specialty physicians make it possible for our residents to see specialists as needed for optometry, ophthalmology, gynecology, urology, cardiology, ear, nose, and throat, general surgery, and orthopedic needs.  Dental needs are met by two private practice dentists who are easily accessible to our residents.  We are fortunate to have an onsite, full-service laboratory and fully digital radiology suite that includes X-Ray, 16 slice CT scanner, ultrasound and mammography.

Rehabilitation Therapy
For our residents who need extra help with strengthening or recovering from an injury, we are pleased to offer full time physical therapy and part time occupational and speech therapy services provided by three physical therapists, one occupational therapist and one speech therapist.  We are also proud to offer the services of our certified wound care nurse who oversees the planning for the prevention and treatment of skin issues.

Dietary Needs
Our registered dietitian supervises the nutritious meals that are provided and ensures that each resident receives a diet that is specially developed according to their needs.  Our dietitian interacts frequently with our residents to fine tune the menu according to our residents likes and dislikes to ensure that all of our residents are completely satisfied with their meals.

Housekeeping/Maintenance
Our friendly maintenance and housekeeping staff are dedicated to keeping our environment clean and fresh and responding to our needs immediately.  We are so proud of our PMC team!

We welcome the opportunity to serve you and your family.  We are happy to answer any questions that you may have about our community, our facility, our staff or our services.  We would be happy to show you around and let you speak with our residents or their families.  We value open and honest communication and look forward to providing you and your family with care and service that exceeds your expectations.
