HEALTH FAIR TEST OPTIONS, DESCriptions and pricing:
HEALTH FAIR PANEL (REquired - $50):
Hemogram
- White Blood Cells (WBC) – White blood cells fight infection. High values often indicate bacterial infection, although the presence of a normal count does not always indicate the absence of disease.
- Red Blood Cell Count (RBC) – Measurement of the number of red blood cells. Red blood cells carry oxygen from the lungs to the body tissues and transfer carbon dioxide from the tissues to the lungs. A lower result is known as anemia and may be caused by bleeding, abnormal destruction of red blood cells, or a lack of substances needed for RBC production.
- Hemoglobin & Hematocrit – Hemoglobin is the oxygen-carrying component found in red blood cells. Hematocrit is a measurement of the percentage of red blood cells found in the body. Hemoglobin and Hematocrit may be decreased in anemia due to many causes. An increase may be due to dehydration, heart or lung disease or an abnormal production of red blood cells.
- Red Blood Cell Indices (MCV, MCH, RDW-CV) – Red blood cell indices relate to the size, shape and color of the red blood cells and help in the diagnosis and determination of the type of anemia.
- Platelets – Platelets are cells in the blood necessary for clotting.
Comprehensive Metabolic Panel
- Sodium, Potassium, Chloride, Calcium – These electrolytes, in the form of ions, participate in most of the body’s functions. They are important in the function of nervous and muscle tissue (Potassium & Calcium), bone formation (Calcium) and in activation of various chemical reactions in the cell.
- Alk Phos, AST, AST – Alkaline Phosphate (ALK PHOS) is an enzyme found in bone, liver, and bile ducts. Increased values may be due to disease in these areas. AST and ALT are enzymes that aid in chemical activities in the muscles, liver and bones.
- BUN/Creatinine and eGRF – Indicators of kidney function. Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) is a test used to check how well the kidneys are working. Specifically, it estimates how much blood passes through the glomeruli each minute. Glomeruli are the tiny filters in the kidneys that filter waste from the blood.
- Glucose – Glucose is the name for the sugar in your blood. The normal fasting glucose range is 65-99 mg/dl. Increased levels may be due to eating before test, diabetes, stress, or illness. It is best to be fasting for 12 hours for this test.
- Bilirubin Total – Bilirubin is a waste product from the natural breakdown of red blood cells. Formed in the liver and excreted in the bile ducts and gallbladder. Increased values may be due to liver disease, bile duct obstruction, or increased red blood cell breakdown.
- Protein Total – Found throughout the body, functions in many capacities, building block of all tissues. A screen for high or low protein can reflect a variety of conditions including liver or kidney disease, infection, inflammation, malnutrition, and cancer.
- Albumin – protein produced in the liver that carries vitamins, enzymes and other important substances. Levels that are too high or too low can indicate an underlying health problem such as those related to the kidney and liver.
Lipid Panel
- This panel evaluates the risk of cardiovascular diseases like heart disease, heart attack, and stroke. The test measures the different types of fat molecules in the blood: Cholesterol, Triglycerides, LDL (the “bad” cholesterol), and HDL (the “good” cholesterol).
ADDITIONAL TESTS (OPTIONAL)
HgbA1c ($50)
Hemoglobin A1c, used to monitor a person's diabetes, diagnose diabetes, and to help identify those at an increased risk of developing diabetes.
TSH ($30)
Thyroid Stimulating Hormone, a screening test for your thyroid function; important to a variety of metabolic activities in the body.
Vitamin D ($75)
Vitamin D is important for maintaining healthy levels of calcium and phosphorus by aiding in their absorption, which is crucial for maintaining strong bones. Vitamin D also modulates neuromuscular, immune, and other cellular functions. Deficiency can lead to bone diseases and has also been associated with a wide range of medical conditions including heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, and cancer.
PSA ($30) *ONLY available to MALES 41 years and older
Prostate specific antigen, one method of screening for prostate cancer.
iFOB ($15) *ONLY available to patients 45 and older
Fecal occult blood test, a screening test to check stool for hidden blood. Hidden blood in stool may indicate colon cancer or polyps in the colon or rectum. However, not all cancers or polyps bleed, which is why the iFOB is considered a screening test only. (STOOL TEST)
